Solo travel can be difficult for some, but it offers many rewards.
A solo traveler lets you take your vacation at your own pace and choose the activities that best suit your interests while meeting new people and like-minded travelers.
Octavia Margin-Tahiroglu, general manager of The St. Regis New York, a Marriott Bonvoy hotel, recommends that cities like Antonio, TX, Nashville, TN, and Charleston, SC each offer their own scene, whether it’s shopping, skiing, art galleries, museums, or hiking. Travels keep you busy.
“For the best solo travel experience, find out what your destination has to offer and buy tickets for attractions in advance, but keep an open mind if things don’t go as planned,” she advises.
Traveling close to home offers wonderful benefits
Just because the destination is a little far from home, doesn’t mean you won’t feel disconnected from it.
Taking a road trip can save you money on flights, and with so many lakes and oceanfront destinations in the United States, there are some amazing places within a short drive.
According to travel expert Caroline Burns at HomeToGo, vacationers can find great value for their vacation rentals in previously unsuspected exciting destinations.

If you can’t stand the heat, go south
If sweating isn’t your thing during the sweltering months, the Southern Hemisphere offers some chilly relief.
If you’re not ready to kiss winter goodbye and are determined to perfect your skills on the slopes, countries exploding in popularity like Argentina offer fantastic ski resorts like Cerro Cateral and Las Leñas.
The cool temperatures provide perfect conditions for whale watching or wine tasting in Argentina’s vineyards.

You might think that lodging provides a comfortable place to sleep, but it can play a big role in complementing your overall experience.
Whether it’s the feel of the English countryside outside of Chicago or admiring the art and bohemian style of the area in a hotel lobby in Memphis, the type of accommodation can make for a truly unique trip.
Matt Barba, chief operating officer of Charlestown Hotels, says travelers want to connect with the culture and community of their destination, and lodging can be an extension of that.
“Today’s travelers are looking for authenticity and hotels need to take a closer look at carefully developed ‘extras’ to enhance their overall experience,” he said.
Vacation rentals are affordable options for large groups.
If you’re planning a large family reunion this season, vacation rentals offer an affordable and flexible option to meet the diverse needs of your group.
Common areas, kitchens, and other facilities are for your guests only, so you don’t have to share spaces with strangers.
If you don’t want to leave any family members behind, including your four-legged friends, Vacasa offers many pet-friendly options using its filters.
“Being able to bring your pet makes it easier for people who work remotely to stay longer,” said Josh Weiner, director of regional operations at Vacasa.
Consider not staying in the middle of everything
When it comes to events, festivals, theme parks and other attractions, the price tag can increase with the proximity of the venue.
If you don’t stay where the action is, you can find some cheaper options. If Walt Disney World is on your bucket list this year, consider staying at a property like the Caribbean Royal Orlando, which is located 1.5 miles from the park entrance and offers shuttle bus transportation.
“The boutiques and villas allow families to spread out, maximize their vacations and enjoy amenities not far from the parks,” said Amaury Piedra, managing director of Caribe Royale Orlando.
