Lynley Heflin’s class will hold its 63rd Annual Scholarship Fashion Show on October 12th.

The annual cocktail gala is the organization’s primary fundraiser and is held at the club. This year’s fashion show will once again feature legendary designer Jonathan Simkay in collaboration with Gus Mayer. The event chair is Kendall Eagan, and Catherine DeBuis is the co-chair.

The Lynley Heflin Unit is named in honor of Lynley Heflin, a Birmingham resident who helped women at home support the war effort by establishing a Red Cross operating unit during World War I. In the year After her death in 1919, a division of Lynley Heflin formed the Women’s Service Organization to continue her work.

In 1923, the organization began offering scholarships for women to attend college. This year, 110 young women will receive $10,000 scholarships annually to pursue undergraduate degrees at Alabama universities.
