Lisa Jennings, a longtime restaurant industry journalist, has joined RestaurantBusiness as publishing executive.
Jennings leads RB’s coverage of independent restaurants, telling their stories and detailing the challenges and opportunities they face as they work to overcome the epidemic.
She also covers fast-casual restaurants, especially companies like Chipotle Mexican Grill, Sweetgreen and other chains, as well as concepts that seek to disrupt the market using new menu styles and technologies.
Jennings will be based in Los Angeles.
“Years ago, I used to compete with Lisa as a reporter,” said RB Editor-in-Chief Jonathan Maze. “I didn’t like competing with Lisa, because she beat me so often. I am thrilled to have you join the incredibly talented RB team.
Jennings comes to the restaurant business from Nationwide Restaurant News, where she spent the past 18 years. She has covered West Coast restaurant chains such as Jack in the Box, Taco Bell, Starbucks and others.
During the outbreak, Jennings took over the hospitality of the NRN’s sister publication, the Pub, leading coverage of independent restaurants. Prior to NRN, she spent 11 years at the Commercial Appeal in Memphis. Previous stops include the Washington Business Journal and UPI.
Jennings began her career as an intern for legendary White House correspondent Helen Thomas and covered 10 presidential administrations for UPI.
“Lisa is a well-respected journalist and a very accomplished journalist,” said Abbey Lewis, VP of content strategy at RB’s parent company, Winsight Media. “She will fit in well with the amazing and award-winning team at RB and we are thrilled to have her on board.”
