Five start-up businesses founded by students and recent graduates from the University of Edinburgh have each received around £100,000 to help them develop solutions for issues such as mental health and waste management.
The companies were supported by the university’s advertising service Edinburgh Innovations and received SMART:SCOTLAND funding awarded by Scottish Enterprise.

benu.i, Set up the world’s smart bin that automatically separates waste for a net zero circular economy
Danu RoboticsA clean technology startup focused on advanced and dedicated technology solutions for the benefit of the environment
BiolibertyCreators of a soft robotic glove and digital therapy platform aimed at helping those with hand fatigue
Imudy, A digital platform for mental health that facilitates early diagnosis
Black Goblin AudioA change sound design and technology company.
Lorna Baird, Student Enterprise Manager, said: “These start-ups are all focused on developing innovative solutions to key challenges facing society and deserve significant funding.
