Tech has been one of the fastest growing and highest paying fields in almost every industry for over 25 years. But, if you haven’t yet joined the workforce that drives the modern world, don’t worry; You haven’t missed the boat. Many of tomorrow’s promising technology jobs require new skills today.

To identify the best tech jobs of the future, GOBANkingRates used data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) to identify positions that pay more than $45,760, which is the median salary for all occupations — all but one pay more than double that. The list is limited to jobs that are expected to grow by more than 5% between now and 2031, which is the growth rate among all jobs. Many of the jobs on this list are often growing quickly.
If you’re interested in a career in tech and want a position with tenure, the following jobs are good places to start.
Computer and information research scientists
- Average pay 131,490 dollars
- Projected 10-year career growth: 21%
The BLS projects much faster-than-average growth for the highest-paying tech jobs over the next ten years — and the BLS projects the fastest-growing computer industry as a whole, about 15 percent higher than average.
Computer and information research scientists have come up with new ways to use both emerging and existing computer technology. The largest percentage of them work for the federal government, although many others work in fields such as research and development and computer design. The impressive predicted growth is fueled by rapidly increasing business data mining and demand for new and better technology.

Computer Systems Analysts
- Average pay 99,270 dollars
- Projected 10-year career growth: 9%
The BLS estimates that the demand for good computer systems analysts will nearly double in all occupations—more than 50,000 jobs will be added over the next 10 years—and the median income will only hit six figures.
They are more likely to work in computer systems design, with finance/insurance and corporate management being the #2 and #3 fields. They are sometimes called system architects and their work involves analyzing computer systems and developing ways to improve them.
Software developers
- Average pay 120,730 dollars
- Projected 10-year career growth: 26%
Few jobs in any industry—tech or otherwise—have higher average salaries and faster growth rates than the software developer field. Working for software publishers earns the most – more than $130,000. But even in the lowest-income field of computer systems design, the median income pulls in at more than $103,000. Salaries in the industry’s top 10% are approaching $170,000.
Their general job description is to create software programs that meet the needs of businesses and their customers. They also work to improve existing platforms and to maintain and improve the software programs they create or improve.
Software quality assurance analysts and testers
- Average pay 98,220 dollars
- Projected 10-year career growth: 25%
Software developers cannot thrive without quality assurance analysts and testers at their backs. Although the job outlook is slightly lower than that of developers, the 10-year projected growth is still five times the outlook for all jobs, making it one of the fastest growing fields in technology.
You earn the most while working in the manufacturing sector, but you can make a good living in computer system design, software publishing, finance, and insurance. Their duties include creating and implementing test plans and procedures for new and existing software applications, identifying risks and potential defects, and taking steps to mitigate both.
Web developers and digital designers
- Average pay 78,300 dollars
- Projected 10-year career growth: 23%
Although web developers and digital designers have the lowest-paying jobs on the list, it’s still above the national median — and one of the fastest-growing fields in all industries. Much of that massive 23 percent growth will come from businesses rapidly expanding their e-commerce offerings over the next 10 years.
Developers and digital designers create and maintain websites, including interface layouts, functionality, and navigation. If you are considering this career path, software publishers should be the target of your job search. With a median salary of $150,040 — nearly double the overall field median — they make the best in this industry. Every other industry pays in the high five figures.
