What’s the deal with downtown Shreveport?
Downtown Shreveport has a reputation for being the center of crime in the city, but the Shreveport Police Department’s crime statistics provide a clearer picture.
While the report is lengthy and covers the entire city from June 2021 to May 2022, it is clear that crime was a part of Downtown Shreveport with 489 crimes during that time frame.
The biggest crime is petty theft, which is 71 times a year.

Shreveport is getting $22 million to improve its health care corridor.
At a joint press conference Monday morning, Shreveport leaders discussed the Rebuilding America’s Infrastructure for Sustainability and Equity (RAISE) grant.
The United States Secretary of Transportation announced Thursday that the Biden administration has provided $63.1 million in funding for five projects in Louisiana.
These projects focus on modernizing roads, bridges, transit, railroads, ports, and intermodal transportation to make transportation systems safer, more accessible, more affordable, and more sustainable.
Shreveport is one of a handful of cities in Louisiana selected to be awarded this grant for $22,164,000 in public transit and infrastructure improvements in the health care corridor.
“Ultimately, these dollars will not only create opportunities for the city of Shreveport, but will create opportunities for our entire region,” said Shreveport Mayor Adrian Perkins.
Who are the 40 Under 40 nominees?
The Greater Shreveport Chamber announced the 40 Under Forty Class of 2022 on Monday.
This distinction was brought to the area by the Young Professionals Initiative, a program of the Greater Shreveport Chamber of Northwest Louisiana. YPI exists to create a network of community leaders under the age of 40 to advance the development of Northwest Louisiana.
One of these 40 honorees will receive the Professional of the Year Award at the 40 Under Forty Awards Gala at Sam’s Town Hotel & Casino on December 2nd.

A Shreveport abortion clinic is getting support from the community through GoFundMe.
After the Louisiana Supreme Court rejected an appeal to hear a case against the state’s abortion ban, a group in Shreveport has created a GoFundMe fundraiser for the only clinic in north Louisiana.
“The community support over the past few months has been amazing,” said Kathleen Pittman, manager of Hope Medical Group for Women. “Transferring this support to GoFundMe is the next step.”
Hope Medical Group has been providing abortion care to families in Arc-la-Tex since 1980, and the staff is 100% committed to continuing to serve the South. “They want to stay open, they can’t stay open in Louisiana,” Hollis said.
