1) Charleston
Perhaps one of South Carolina’s most famous cities, Charleston is a must-see when visiting the state. Trust me, the charm and beauty of Charleston is worth exploring for a few days…and not just because of the history.
The mountain range has restaurants, bars and seasonal events.
That being said, you must visit Charleston’s historic district, which is picture perfect. Stroll through the streets and explore the centuries-old buildings and cobbled streets that make this place so special.
Of course, you won’t forget a trip down the Battery, Rainbow Row, and Broad Street, but also set aside some time to explore other places in the historic district.
Hop on over to Toast All Day for delicious brunch, delicious French fries and homemade biscuits.
Finally, if you fancy some time at sea, head to Island Palms and Folly Beach to relax and connect with the sun and water.
That being said, this luxury dinner cruise from Charleston is simply beautiful to experience. Not only do you explore Charleston Harbor, but you can also try some of the homemade Southern cuisine that South Carolina is so famous for.

2.) Myrtle Beach
Known for its family-friendly nature, Myrtle Beach is a great place to visit when visiting South Carolina with the family. That being said, it’s also great if you’re traveling alone or with friends.
Of course, you’ve got firm favorites like the popular miniature golf course and Family Kingdom Amusement Park. The latter can be a bit pricey if you’re there all day – but it’s definitely worth it (especially for a rollercoaster).
All that being said, Myrtle Beach isn’t all about sinking some money into all the attractions. The beach scenery is also absolutely gorgeous. It’s an ideal place to go paddle boarding, fishing or kayaking or even sunbathing.
One thing to note, Myrtle Beach can get a little crowded during peak times or holidays, so it’s worth rescheduling your visit if you prefer more chilled out beaches. Although, you can easily walk to Myrtle Beach State Park and find trails, a fishing pond for recreation and relaxation.
Plus, it’s a great spot for sunrises and sunsets.
3) Colombia
Although Charleston is a wonderful city to visit, Columbia is the largest city and capital of South Carolina. This makes it an absolutely vibrant and fun city to visit in South Carolina.
Once here, be sure to check out the stunning Columbia Canal and Riverfront Park for bike rides or trails in this historic area. If that doesn’t sound like your thing, check out the famous South Carolina State Museum over 4 floors. The planetarium is also incredible.
For the most delicious cocktails, for amazing cocktails and dessert, pop into Bourbon Bourbon Gumbo Bowl. Also, shrimp and grits are great with added chili oil.
After you’ve had your fill, also check out Hampton-Preston Park and Gardens. It’s worth exploring to learn more about the building’s history.
4.) Caesar’s Head State Park
Caesar’s Hill State Park is one of the best places in South Carolina if you want to get into the great outdoors. It is located in the northern part of the state.
Caesar’s head alone is a massive rock formation that is an interesting and beautiful sight to behold.
Now, most people who visit Caesars Held State Park go for a hike—and it’s a great place for that. The shortest would be Raven Cliff Falls, and this is perfect if you want to get to know the scenery. Be sure to take some good shoes, sprained ankles are no fun on a hike.
Oh, and don’t forget to check out nearby Table Rock State Park and Pinnacle Lake. It’s just down the road and absolutely beautiful to visit. Also, you have the Table Rock Summit Trail which is worth joining if you’re looking for a ramble.
Finally, pop into Aunt Sue’s Country Corner for their pork and cream puffs.
5.) Hilton Head
If you want to get away from the crowds, you’ll want to head to Hilton Head. It is located in Savannah (Georgia) and is famous for its wonderful oceanfront resorts.
Here you can enjoy sailing, snorkeling or just surfing. Always be sure to listen to the lifeguard’s advice on the changing tides on the day of your visit.
You can also check out the heaps of world-class golf courses in the area. Trust me, if you love golfing, you’ll find it to be one of the best places to visit in South Carolina.

6.) Aiken
In many ways, I consider Aiken to be one of South Carolina’s hidden gems. Once the go to place for those who want to be seen in 19Th century, it quickly became a place for the wealthy to enjoy themselves. All of this helped the equestrian industry become a big part of the town’s character. It can still be seen today.
Be sure to check out the Aiken Thoroughbred Racing Hall of Fame and Museum. It is one of the best places to visit in South Carolina if you want to learn about winning horses and the history of the area.
Oh yes, and in February, you can also catch the famous Battle of Aiken 1865 held annually to create the world.
7.) Spartanburg
Incorporated as far back as 1753, Spartanburg is one of the more historic towns in South Carolina.
Stroll through the historic downtown area to learn about its history and culture, and learn about Spartanburg’s role in World Wars I and II. To make things easier, if you’re into music or into the arts, you can take the Spartanburg Music Trail and head to the Chapman Cultural Center and the Spartanburg Art Museum.
Meanwhile, if you like cars, you should definitely visit the BMW Zentrum, and for nature lovers, you can walk, bike, walk or walk in Spartanburg.
Pop into Kennedy’s Crawfish and Pumpkin for a delicious bite to eat. It’s such a gem.
8.) Mauldin and Greenville
To the north is Mauldin, one of the best places in South Carolina to visit if you’re already in nearby Greenville.
Overlooking the Appalachian Mountains, it’s a relatively small town with a lot going for it. This is especially true when making an afternoon trip to Mauldin rather than a long trip to Greenville. Between them, they’ve got everything from symphony, ballet and theater events that make Maud a creative city.
When planning your itinerary, don’t forget to add the Peace Center Theater, Liberty Bridge, Falls Park, and the Greenville County Museum of Art.
Not only that, Mauldin and Greenville have plenty of green space that’s perfect for outdoor activities. You can walk, bike, visit parks, go to the arcade, or explore the city. Pelham Mill Park is a popular riverside park in the area, so you might want to check it out.
Plus, you have Lake Salda nearby where you can rent kayaks and explore the waters from Salda River Adventures. It’s very interesting.
Afterwards, head over to the pretty casual ghost BBQ restaurant. It has a relaxed vibe and is worth going for their ribs alone.

9.) Huntington Beach State Park
If you love the great outdoors, Huntington Beach State Park is the perfect place for you. It is one of the best places in South Carolina for its trails, camping, bird watching and fishing. Besides, he is very handsome.
Trust me, if you want to chill, this is a great place – especially on an unspoiled beach. However, if you still want to stay active, you can join the trails around Atalaya Castle.
You’ll have a great time and it’s very easy to visit from nearby Myrtle Beach (which we mentioned earlier).
10.) Middleton Place
The oldest landscape in the United States is located in Middleton. If that’s not reason enough to visit, I don’t know what is!
Middleton Place was previously a plantation that began in 1755. Although one of the original mansion buildings is standing today, Middleton Place is still considered a National Historic Landmark and is worth a look around.
However, for me, gardens can be the best part of the house. It is in the traditional French style with azaleas, camellias, magnolias and others. Just looking at it is amazing.
Plus, it’s easy to get around after exploring Charleston because it’s on the outskirts of the city.
11.) Lake Hartwell
It may be man-made, but regardless, Lake Hartwell is still a gem and one of the best places in South Carolina.
Crossing the state borders of South Carolina and Georgia, you can see Sadler’s Creek State Park and visit River Forks Recreation Area. The latter also has some lovely swimming spots that are perfect in the warmer months.
Oh, and stop at El Manzanillo for some of the best Mexican food in all of South Carolina. It is completely unfussy and very relaxing with desserts.
