Texas is an absolutely amazing state to visit in the United States. With historic cities like San Antonio, vibrant cities like Austin, and amazing places in Houston and Dallas, it’s a state that has something for everyone. Don’t be fooled into thinking Texas is all about its cities though! There are some great beaches in Texas that you really can’t miss.

Over the years, we’ve visited some of the best places in Texas on road trips and we always absolutely love our trip here.

So, to make sure you make the most of your time (and not get bogged down in research), I’m sharing a few of the beach gems in Texas that you won’t want to miss.

Have a great time visiting Texas!

1.) Boca Chica Beach

Boca Chica Beach is the perfect place for a totally laid back and chilled out Texas Gulf Coast getaway. Nestled in Brazos Island State Park is one of the best beaches in Texas and more!

You see, just shy of Boca Chica Beach is the SpaceX launch facility, which is pretty cool to see.

Now, please remember, Boca Chica Beach (including Del Mar Beach) can be very quiet in terms of amenities. I mean, you won’t find piers, beaches or restaurants nearby.

Meanwhile, this long stretch of sand is worth a visit if you are looking for a completely quiet beach and excursions.

Also, if you’re an early riser, Boca Chica Beach is one of the best places to watch the sunrise.

2.) Padre Island National Seashore

Not far from Corpus Christi, Padre Island National Seashore is a long ‘spit’ of an absolutely beautiful island to visit in Texas.

In fact, it’s a great place for kayaking, swimming and windsurfing – as long as you’re good at it. Remember, the waves and currents can be strong here.

That being said, there is always a visitor center worth checking out to see local conditions. Plus, you can learn about the local wildlife, and park rangers can tell you about their conservation efforts during public sea turtle releases.

Oh, and if you want to hike, head to the Grassland Nature Trail on Padre Island.

3.) Bolivar Beach

The best beaches in Texas to visit in America

Sitting on the Bolivar Peninsula, Bolivar Beach (and Crystal Beach) is seven miles of wonder and easily one of the best beaches in Texas closest to Houston. In fact, you can easily spend a long afternoon here.

Now, the area can be known for its fishing opportunities. All this means that the area around Crystal Beach boasts plenty of fresh seafood on offer at nearby places to eat.

We absolutely loved the informality of Jose’s Cantina. They serve amazing seafood.

Now, with their beautiful large size, Bolivar Beach and Crystal Beach are less crowded than other places in Texas. All of this makes it an ideal location if you’re looking for a more chill beach getaway.

Southwest of Galveston, Surfside Beach has heaps of activities that make it a great place to visit with friends and family. Not only that, but Surfside Beach is said to be one of the cleanest beaches in all of Texas.

If that’s not a win, I don’t know what is!

Also, if you’re staying all day, head to Sharkies On The Beach. They have some delicious cocktails and everything is completely informal.

Alternatively, for some beachy people, head to the Beach Front Deck Bar & Grill. Their catfish is so good!

5.) Rockport Beach

The best beaches in Texas to visit in America

The 1 mile long Rockport Beach is one of the best Texas beaches to visit while driving between Corpus Christi and Houston.

Named as Blue Wave Beach, Rockport Beach is a gem to visit and an absolutely gorgeous stretch to enjoy.

Not including the beaches on Mustang Island and Padre Island, it has a crescent-shaped stretch of sand that’s popular with families and easy to include.

Not only that, the shallow and calm waters of Rockport Beach make it safe from swells, especially when children are around.

6.) South Padre Island

The best beaches in Texas to visit in America

Another family-friendly beach in Texas is South Padre Island Beach. Located near the Mexican border, South Padres Island may be the most southerly beach you can visit in Texas.

Once here, you can walk along the long beach and try activities like kiteboarding, jet skiing, kitesurfing and windsurfing. Always make sure to listen to local, expert, advice and never leave in difficult situations.

One of my favorite areas has to be the beach area of Isla Blanca. Not only is it completely cheerful, but there is also ample parking (which is quite a surprise on weekends).

Is it making a profit? Head to Blackbeard’s for grilled shrimp and takeout. Totally informal and very tasty.

7.) Sea Rim State Park

The best beaches in Texas to visit in America

Best for wildlife viewing, Sea Rim State Park is considered one of the best beaches in Texas for a long weekend.

You see, Sea Rim State Park is more than just the beach. It is the best place for excellent bird watching and paddleboarding. Be sure to hop on the Gambusia Nature Trail Boardwalk for a great view of the park.

8.) Galveston Beach

The best beaches in Texas to visit in America

Just like (you guessed it) Galveston, Galveston Beach is less popular but still one of the best beaches in Texas. All are fully accessible and easy to visit by car.

Sure, you have all the restaurants and beach spots to enjoy, but the beach itself is what it’s all about. For a quieter area, head to Stewart Beach – though, you won’t find many options for places to eat here.

Oh, and don’t forget to spend some time at the Pleasure Pier. Trust me, you will scream on some of these rides.

9.) Port Aransas Beach

The best beaches in Texas to visit in America

Truth be told, you can’t go wrong with a visit to Port Aransas for its beaches. It’s a very chilled out place, and being part of Mustang Island means it’s got more busy and completely quieter coastal areas.

Believe me, even though Corpus Christi is near the beach, there is no sign when you get there.

10.) Magnolia Beach Park

The best beaches in Texas to visit in America

Magnolia Beach Park is one of the best beaches in Texas to visit which is completely peaceful and cool. Here, you can really unwind and explore a protected beach perfect for the whole family.

My favorite thing about Magnolia Beach is that it’s a lot busier than other places. This may be because some visitors prefer more popular places with more amenities – but I just love it.

Plus, if you want an even bigger stretch of sand nearby, you have Indianola Beach Park.

11.) Mustang Island State Park

The best beaches in Texas to visit in America

A quieter part of the island (away from Port Aransas Beach), Mustang Island State Park is a wonderful place to visit in Texas.

In addition to swimming and sunbathing, Mustang Island has plenty of fun activities for you and your family or friends to enjoy for a chilled day at the beach.

Once here, head out to explore paddling trails, bird watching and more. Another good thing about this beach is that it is dog friendly.

This makes it a great place to visit if you’re traveling with your furry friend. That being said, make sure you are always on leash to be considerate of other beachgoers.

Oh, and one of the easiest ways to access the beaches at Mustang Island State Park is via access road two. This will take you right to the beach in no time.
