Two Wayne State University fashion design and merchandise students are spending the summer in New York after winning first place in the Windows Ware Mentorship program.
Kate Martin won the Longchap competition and the practice of Longchap, while Maya Kasbah won the coaching competition and the coaching experience.
“I’m incredibly excited to have this experience,” said Martin. “Working in fashion in New York has always been my dream, and now I can’t believe it’s my reality.”
For this reason, this opportunity is often coming.
“I have never been to New York City before, but I always talked about going,” she says. I think he showed me. It is a dream come true to be able to experience the city while working with such a big brand. I could not ask for a better opportunity to develop my profession. ”
Many other Wayne State students excelled in the WindowsWear Mentorship program, with Joseph Johnston second in the Longchap competition, Sam Abeme Nguma third in the coaching competition and third in the Nell Kate Speed competition. Celine Garmo and Zoe Rogula were the finalists.
All of Wine State students who excelled in the competition were from Monica Sinkler, a fashion design and marketing instructor. Sinclair asks her students to submit it as a final project proposal.
“If my students can get my encouragement and my letters above their work, I am for all of this,” said Sinclair. “About half of the students in my class have placed in this competition; some have got paid internships which is now rare. The most important thing for me is that you can use this as a tool on their rhymes or post it on LinkedIn.”

According to John Harari, CEO and co-founder of Windows Ware.com, the company is using the competition to attract college-affiliated brands and college students.
“Students want to engage with brands, and brands want to engage with students,” Harari said. “I have a lot of respect for Monica. She sees the value in what we do. Wayne State did great things and provided job opportunities for its students.
According to Martin, Longchamp asked students to design a window display of Paris cafe.
“It was inspired by 21-year-old influential Emma Chamberlain, who created her own sustainable coffee brand, and because of that inspiration, I wanted my window display to show the collaboration between Longchap and Chamberlain Coffee,” Martin said. “Longchap says my concept is interesting, it shows my talent and it looks like a campaign,” he said.
Kasbah created the airline’s emerging experience as an “air coach”.
“In the 1970s, I was inspired by the hospitality and beauty of the airline and I first came up with the idea because of the brand name of the coach, which made me think of a coach on a plane,” Kasabah said.
“The coach has informed me that they are currently working on the concept of aviation,” she said. “He liked the references I made to my concept, which eventually became very similar to the ones he originally collected for his idea.”
Martin thanked Wayne County and Sinclair for helping them win the race.
“I love everything about Wayne State’s fashion design and merchandise program,” she says. “The professors are knowledgeable, creative and supportive. Classes are never boring, and the lessons are very practical.
“I love Monica,” Martin continued. “Not only did she help during the process, but I don’t think I was shot in the exercise without her support and guidance. She explained the importance of this competition and encouraged us to do our best. Her love and experience for fashion is very encouraging – we are very fortunate to have her as a professor and mentor.
Kasbah agreed with Martin, and Sinclair thanked her for inspiring her to succeed in the race.
“Monica is incredibly encouraging. She is constantly informing her students about opportunities outside of Wayne County, ”she said. “If it weren’t for her, I would never know about the WindowsWear Mentorship Program and I wouldn’t be where I am today to get this opportunity. Monica has been very helpful in developing my concept, monitoring every little detail during one phone call and making sure my work is of the highest quality.
