The idea of bringing together female business owners in downtown Highland Park was immediately supported.

But can you find a place big enough?

The steps at the Wayfarer Theater proved an ideal place for women of the 60s to celebrate their careers and achievements on Wednesday, May 3.

Lynn Branaghan of Untangle Hair Studio will talk about her business on May 3rd.

Susan Lurie, who founded Highland Park’s Inaz Boutique in 1993, called the collection “sentimental.”

“It’s all about,” Lurie said. “We did not go out to find work. We are all self-starters.

The photo op is the brainchild of the Downtown Highland Park Alliance, a group of local business representatives working to promote and improve the district’s success.

Ilyse Strongin, founder of Ripple Public Relations, another downtown Highland Park business, helped bring the women to the Wayfarer Theater. She said that while there are about 60 women in the photo, more than twice that number own businesses in downtown Highland Park.

Amy Ton Zhang of AcuCare Northshore Wellness introduced herself to her peers.

Association Chairwoman Kate Wieswald said it’s a great opportunity to recognize a special group.

“Whether they’ve been in business for decades or not, these women are all a vital part of our community,” Wieswald said in a press release. “I admire their accomplishments and am honored to have their wonderful businesses in our downtown.”

Female business leaders lined up seven rows up the theater steps for the photo op. Afterwards, they each went to announce their names, businesses and careers in Highland Park. They represented security centers, beauty services, dining establishments and everything in between, and after each woman finished, she received a round of applause.
