Prince Harry did not make it to Scotland in time to say goodbye to Queen Elizabeth II in person before she died on Thursday.
While others arrived around 4pm, Harry didn’t touch down until 8pm – about an hour and a half after Buckingham Palace announced his grandmother’s death.
“No decision has been taken to isolate at all. [Harry]According to reports, the 37-year-old royal was denied a seat on the plane carrying members of the royal family, a source told Page 6.
The source added that Harry’s father – now King Charles III – had asked him and Prince William to rush to Balmoral to see the Queen as her health deteriorated rapidly.
As Harry arrived late – and without wife Meghan Markle – some reports speculated that ongoing friction with the royal family prompted the Duke of Sussex to go it alone.
However, sources told Page 6 that Charles, 73, specifically asked William, 40, to fly in early and attend the Privy Council meeting in his stead. At that point it was unclear what would happen over the next few hours.
“That’s why I didn’t see the other grandchildren on that flight either,” the source explained.
As previously reported, while Harry and 41-year-old Markle stayed at their home in Windsor for charity, Charles made it clear that it wasn’t a good idea for the “Suits” alum to go with him.
“The tension was so high and there was no way Meghan was going to Balmoral,” a palace insider told Us on Friday.
“The fact that the Sussexes’ camp said both Harry and Meghan were going – and quickly retracted that statement – tells you all you need to know about the drama behind the scenes.”
Harry is believed to have last seen his grandfather in person in June 2022 to celebrate Her Majesty’s Platinum Jubilee.
When Queen Elizabeth died, Charles was immediately proclaimed king. The new title was announced as the UK continues to mourn its longest reign.
Later in the day, Markle officially met Harry, William and Kate Middleton. The foursome were photographed receiving heartfelt tributes from fans across the country.
