Why a big button down shirt is my fall fashion staple

[ad_1]

Fall is hands down my favorite season to wear. Golden-like temperatures (not too hot and not too cold) have your entire outfit at your fingertips. Feeling like it’s a slip dress and sweater day? Fully functional. How about a jacket and shorts? no problem! But the real workhorse of my wardrobe this year is most definitely the oversized undershirt. My style aesthetic leans masculine most days, so I’ve amassed quite a collection over the years—most of them vintage—but I always head straight to the men’s section before checking out the women’s options to see what shirts they’ve dropped for the new season. .

The beauty of an oversized shirt is its versatility. Not only do they work for a variety of body types and sizes (especially those who aren’t genetically blessed in the bust department), but the style options are seemingly endless. With the right accessories – like a belt on your waist – you can easily change the image, making one garment have many different lives in your wardrobe.

For my personal aesthetic, I like a drape-y, slightly baggy dress, so I just roll up the sleeves, leave the top three buttons unbuttoned (a good bra is a must, you don’t want to show one), and if I’m wearing high-waisted pants, I pin one side to elongate the leg. I just don’t want the shirt to look so perfect—that is, the quality that French women in particular seem to have mastered—that it rolls off the bed. Plus, when you’re running around New York City all day, it helps not to worry about your shirt getting a little wrinkled. Looking clean is boring in my opinion – let your clothes look loved and loved.

So, if you’re ready to start incorporating the most important of all fashion staples this fall, check out some of my favorite shirting options now and how I style them for the season.
