Wheeling Health Right Executive Director Kathie Brown tells Ohio County commissioners of plans for an addition to the clinic.
WHEELING – Construction at the Wheeling Health Right building in South Wheeling is “moving along” despite supply chain issues, says executive director Kathie Brown.
“Because of supply and demand, we’ve had setbacks,” she said. “We’re getting ready to hang drywall in the new addition. In the dental area, we’re waiting on someone to install tops on the counters.”
The construction project Wheeling Health Right is adding more space for dental operations at the facility, as well as storage within the clinic. The medical provider is located at 61 29th St. in South Wheeling.
The current conference room at Wheeling Health Right is being reconstructed for use as a second dental operatory area, and an additional storage room for needed personal protective equipment also will be placed there.
The project then includes the construction of a new conference room, as well as a drive up pharmacy window. The drive-in option will provide patients the options of picking up prescriptions without having to come inside.
Construction is ongoing at the site, but Brown is reluctant to say when it will be completed.
“I’m afraid to give a guess,” she said. “You can’t predict when certain things will come in. That’s the problem.”
For example, a generator that will serve as a back-up power source for the building isn’t expected to arrive for about a year, according to Brown.
“We have one, but it doesn’t control the entire clinic,” she said. “It controls the refrigerators where we keep some medications and some lights.
“After we get the new generator, we won’t know when the power is out. We will continue to operate like normal.”
Obtaining needed supplies in general – such as windows and bricks – have been an issue, but materials are starting to come in, Brown said.
Luxury vinyl tile flooring is being placed throughout the facility and replacing carpeting there.
“When you have to consider how we have to clean carpets, the (LVT flooring) is way, way cheaper in the long run,” Brown explained. “We can disinfect everyday and not worry about infections.”
The work at Health Right has an expected price tag of $300,000. After Health Right raised more than $120,000 for upgrades, the Ohio County Commission granted last April to provide the remaining $180,000 needed for the project.
