Co-owners Lynn and Rob Beyer started dreaming up a business like The Pad – a hybrid hotel and hostel – eight years ago.
The pad officially opens to the community in 2021. With affordable prices and a welcoming bar, The Pad has made a concerted effort to attract both tourists and locals.
“We want our business to be as much a part of the community as it has been for travelers,” said Rob Baer. At the heart of the relationship is his wife, but both owners say they devote time and energy to organizing events that benefit nonprofit organizations and the community.
Lynn Beyer is a member of the Rotary Club of Summit County and Rob Beyer is on the board of the Blue River Watershed Group. At The Pad, non-profit events, fundraisers and yoga are held along with light and live music nights.
In addition to their community ties, the Byers want to create a place to stay that’s comfortable for all walks of life.
“We really had a dream that we wanted to bring affordable lodging to Summit County.” Rob Baier said. “It’s nice, clean, and newly built, but it doesn’t matter if you stay in a $40 or $50 dorm or a $300-a-night private room — you get the same amenities.”
Being named Best New Business for Summit is also thanks to A-Bar, a social space that greets guests as soon as they walk through the doors. Rob Beyer’s favorite story about the bar involves two guests meeting. Last winter, an out-of-state visitor sat in the bar, upset about signing up for three weeks in Summit County to ski on a little snow.
However, down the bar, a local guy who enjoys mountain biking overhears. The local man invited the visitor to go mountain biking, and the two spent the next three days together exploring Summit County’s bike trails.
“It doesn’t matter who you are, you never know who you’re going to sit next to, whether it’s a local, a traveler, a skier or a millionaire,” says Rob Beyer. “Everybody comes to our bar, and it breaks down all those barriers. Everyone feels comfortable here. “
The Pad also won Best Workplace: Less than 20 Employees, Best Pet-Friendly Lodging and Best Lodging/Hotel categories. It is a finalist for Best Wedding Venue and Best Bar. Located at 491 Rainbow Drive, Silverthorne.
