Whether happy or sad, I enjoy sharing life updates on this blog. I am eternally grateful to those who have been reading OMAAT for a long time, because I have written this blog for a large part of my life, at this point. Well, today I have perhaps the biggest life update yet, which will no doubt shape the content of this blog.

My new favorite kind of Miles

Just 24 hours ago, Ford and I welcomed our son, Miles, into the world. With only one day to go with all this dad stuff, I’m not sure words can adequately describe the excitement, joy and gratitude we’re feeling. It’s been a long journey to get to this point, and we can’t believe the time is finally here.

There are so many things I’m feeling right now, but to be honest I have a hard time putting them into words, maybe combined with exhaustion and indescribable feelings. I will say that to me, one of the most special things is that my mother still has to meet Miles. As longtime OMAAT readers know, she’s been battling cancer for years, and it’s been her dream to get it. I am endlessly grateful that this happened.

I am excited to learn about traveling in a new way

Besides being excited to be a dad in general, I’m also excited to learn a completely different way of traveling. I’d like to think I’m a travel expert, but suddenly I feel like a newbie, and I’m finding myself wondering about everything about traveling with a toddler. You can bet I’ll have lots of posts asking readers for tips and sharing my experiences traveling with an infant.

Traveling with a newborn definitely changes the dynamics of travel, and I imagine that’s even more so when you’re a gay couple with a baby. I’ll be sure to report back on my experience with that.

I’m also officially starting the countdown – it’s only been 17 years and 364 days since Miles’ first credit card application! 😉

What this means for blog content in the future

I doubt we’ll be taking Miles on long weekend trips to Asia for the first few years, even though there’s amazing first class award space. So what does that mean for blog content?

  • To put it simply, our family trips are mostly opportunities close to home.
  • When we decide to travel long distances, we probably prefer to stay longer at a destination, although this is something we have been doing lately.
  • I will continue to review more airline products, although this will probably come in the form of quick trips lasting a few days like I did in the good old days, so I can maximize time at home.

I’m definitely looking for advice from other parents here. I’ve heard some say that it’s easy to travel with babies until they can actually walk. Let’s start things slow and go from there.

at last

What an eventful, fun, talented and graphic 24 hours it was. Ford and I are both excited about a new life adventure, and I’m especially excited to be a travel novice again as I learn about the wonderful world of traveling with an infant.

Thanks for reading, and if parents want to share their single tip for traveling with a newborn/toddler (or something you wish you’d known earlier), I’d definitely appreciate it!
