Austin, Texas — The No. 10 Virginia Tech Hokies won day one of the Lone Star State Invitational with a 6-5 extra innings win over the No. 9 Texas Longhorns on Friday. The Hokies came back from a three-run deficit to take the win and move to 9-3 on the season.
second Emma Lemley (5-1) started in the circle and picked up the win for Virginia Tech. The right-hander went eight innings, allowing one walk and striking out seven. She ended the game with a seventh strikeout.
High Kelsey Bennett He was clutch again for the Hokies, going 1-for-3 with a home run and an RBI in the ballgame. High Grace Chavez He also came up big in a hit situation with a home run and two RBIs to tie the game in the third. The Longhorns scored three runs to regain the lead in the bottom of the third. The Hokies responded in the top of the seventh, scoring three times to tie the game, including back-to-back homers from Bennett and Jackson, which tied the score at 5-5.
