During the season of growth, several Trailblazers continued to set new personal records in the program’s third year of existence.

Most recently, Utah Tech competed in the Adidas/Steve Scott Invitational at UC Irvine on April 28-29. According to a news release, the Trailblazers set a new PR “in every event” and set four team records.

“The girls had like 14 or 15 personal records along with four new school records,” Utah Tech coach Derek Adkins said in a news release. “First of all, this meeting is about confidence. All those PRs and four school records in two weeks will inspire confidence going into the championships.

The registration arrangements were as follows.

Sophomore Addie White set a new Utah Tech time of 2 minutes, 12.60 seconds in the 800 meters. She finished ninth in the competition.

Sophomore Rashauna Gibson became the first Trailblazer to break under 12 seconds in the 100-meter dash, placing eighth in a UT-best 11.92.

Freshman Megan Jenkins broke her own 400 hurdles team record with a time of 1:02.67 to finish fourth.

Two sprinters break 200m dash records. In heat three, Gibson ran a program-best 25.34. But the record would be short-lived. In the next heat, Utah Tech sophomore Ashlyna Gilhula ran a team-record 25.32.

“The women are really starting to believe in themselves, they’re starting to show up and produce time,” Adkins said.

Utah Tech heads to Nacogdoches, Texas, May 11-13 for the 2023 WAC Outdoor Track and Field Championships.
