ST. George – Utah Tech University Police Department is internationally recognized by only 7% of the country’s universities.
The International Campus Law Enforcement Association (IACLEA) is the “largest professional association on campus public safety and law enforcement”. It started in 1958 with 11 colleges and universities and today includes more than 1,000 higher education institutions in 14 countries.
Recognition of the association is a two-year process and involves representatives visiting the campus to review the police department and the university, according to a Utah Tech press release.
He also demanded the approval of the 11-member board of directors.
The Campus Law Enforcement Association assesses a school’s compliance with nine standards, including the obligation to intervene, use reasonable force, and prevent harassment “unless the use of lethal force is reasonable.”
Acknowledging this, Uta Tech is now partnering with schools such as Cornell University, the University of Houston and the University of Washington.
The University of Utah is listed on the association’s website for recognition. Other Utah schools are not listed or accredited.
The association honored Utah Tech Police Captain Ron Bridge with an Excellence Award for outstanding service to campus security personnel in areas such as policy and planning, investigation and crime prevention.
In a press release, Bridges said, “The UTA Tech Police Department is honored to be recognized by IACLEA after years of certifying day-to-day policing.” IACLEA Certification . “
Prior to these awards, Paul Morris, vice president of administration, was awarded the 2020-21 Community-Based Police Innovation Award.
