ST. george – A bomb threat forced the evacuation of the Utah Tech University campus, specifically the Smith Building and Cox, Burns, Sports Medical and Habibia, according to the DSU Safe app.

DSU Safe posted a message at 3:33 p.m. Tuesday:
There was a bomb threat against the Smith Building. Please leave immediately. Smith and the surrounding area building has been vacated. The building is being inspected. Avoid the area and stay out of buildings.
But at 4.14pm, the DSU Safe app sent another message saying “no bomb found”. The Smith building and all other buildings are clear and open.
“We have a report of a bomb threat at the university and the area is on lockdown … we want you to stay away from the area,” Tiffany Mitchell of the St. George Police Office said in a video. We have special investigative teams looking into this. We view this as a credible threat.
Utah Tech spokeswoman Jill Hall told the St. George News that the bomb threat was made by phone at 3 p.m., and that the bomb would specifically be inside the Smith Computing Center. The police were immediately dispatched. After initial and secondary searches turned up nothing, the police left the St. George police and left the scene, but campus police closed the building.
This is a developing story.
It has been updated July 19 at 4:20 pm: He confirmed that no bombs had been found and that buildings had been reopened.
