Business students at Central Plains Community College have a new option to transfer into the university system.
MPCC and the University of Nebraska at Kearney have partnered on the 2+2 Business Pathway Program.
The program allows students to earn an Associate of Applied Science degree in business at Mid-Plains, then transfer to UNK to earn a Bachelor of Science degree in business administration, regardless of their area of concentration.
“This is huge for students pursuing an Associates of Applied Science degree,” said MPCC Vice President of Academic Affairs Jody Tomanek. “It gives them more opportunities to transfer and it’s a complete degree plan, so students don’t have to guess what they’re transferring. Everything is laid out for them. Our advisors work with them to make sure they’re taking exactly what they need to transfer seamlessly and complete in eight semesters.”
The partnership builds on and expands Mid-Plans’ already great working relationship with UNK. There is a similar pathway to UNK for students seeking an Associate of Arts degree through MPCC.
“This partnership gives students more flexibility by allowing them to pursue an undergraduate degree in their program. Earn your associate’s degree first, then take the next step toward earning your bachelor’s degree,” said Bree Dority, associate dean of UNK’s College of Business and Technology.
The new route will be implemented in time for fall classes. Available both online and in physical formats.
MPCC’s Bachelor of Applied Science in Business offers seven areas of concentration: Accounting, Administrative Assistant, Agribusiness, Business Administration, Entrepreneurship, Logistics and Medical Administrative Assistant.
The degree provides the necessary business and interpersonal skills to succeed in the job market, including leadership, listening, team building and communication. In the final semester, students receive practical, on-the-job training.
