Spring is in the air, and students are flocking to airports to begin their spring break trips.
United Airlines spokeswoman Nicole Carrier is sharing travel tips, answering questions about new travel trends and talking about how airlines are handling the flow of travel.
Between now and April this spring, Carrier United expects more than 21 million people to fly with them. Carrier said they are expecting 75,000 to fly from Indianapolis. “If you’re heading to the airport this week, prepare to be busy,” Carrier said.
Carrier said such travel numbers are close to pre-pandemic travel numbers, with travel numbers up “20 percent” compared to last year.
We are going back to where we were in those travel days before the pandemic. I think the difference now is that more people are working remotely and have more flexibility in their schedules. Carrier said.
Carrier said those telecommuters are flying on traditional shoulder days like Tuesdays or Thursdays, and those days aren’t as open as they were before the pandemic.
Carrier says the best thing to do is plan ahead to be ready to travel any day of the week. “We’re aware of travel issues due to staffing shortages, and those are affecting airlines across the country,” Carrier said.
“One of the biggest things you can do is make sure you download the United app or the app of the airline you fly with. It’s the main way we communicate with you to make sure you have all the information you need to make travel easier,” Carrier said.
Along with this connection, the carrier said airline apps give the user a direct way to contact an airline agent and keep them informed of all their travel information.
The carrier also offers common tips for navigating airport travel, such as getting to the airport early, finding parking and checking the TSA website to find out what you can and can’t bring in your carry-on bag.
