Troy’s men’s team defeated Tennessee Tech – Troy’s messenger

After a three-game road stretch, where the Troy Trojans went 0-3, the Trojans (7-4) returned home with an 87-64 win over the Tennessee Tech Golden Eagles (3-7) on Dec. 10. with a score of 87-64.

Tennessee Tech came out firing to go up 6-0. Tennessee Tech was able to cut the lead to 51-43 in the second half, but Troy finished strong and secured the victory by outscoring Tennessee Tech 44-34.

Troy lost the return game to the Golden Eagles 32-30, but Troy forced 19 turnovers and turned the ball over just nine times. The Trojans also shot 57.6 percent from the field, holding Mercer to 44.4 percent.

A total of four Trojans scored in double figures: Christine Eugene had 17 points, four rebounds and four assists, while Zay Williams had 15 points, eight rebounds and a block. Nelson Phillips finished with 13 points and three steals, while Kiefer Punter had 12 points. Ameer Muhammad and Darius McNeil both scored nine points, with McNeil dishing out four assists.

“It was a great win for us, one of the best we’ve had all year,” Troy coach Scott Cross said. “Obviously there’s still some things we need to clean up and improve defensively, but I felt like our guys kept their foot on the gas pedal.”

“We had a tendency to play well in the first half and score low in the second half, but our guys managed to extend their lead.” I’m very proud of the fact that we had 17 assists in just nine rounds and 11 steals compared to nine rounds, which says a lot about the defense. We’ve got people flying all around us and creative destruction. Then shooting 57 percent shows that we weren’t selfish and that we were able to make our teammates better, which is a total team win for our guys.
