Trident Technical College is offering free state-funded tuition to all South Carolina residents for the 2022-2023 school year.
“As a community college, we’re all about providing access to appropriate training and education,” said David Hansen, director of public information. “Accessibility is not just about proximity to campus, it’s about being able to afford the education we offer. Tuition-free tuition removes a major barrier that students may face when considering college.
Trident Tech has offered students free enrollment in many career training programs for the past few years, but thanks to additional state funding, all classes are now free, including university transfer programs.
Trident Tech applies federal and state tuition grants and cost-of-attendance scholarships, plus waives remaining tuition, registration and course fees. Eligible students may attend college courses full or part time.
“Most of our students work and have families and other responsibilities,” Hansen said. “The decision to go to college is not always an easy one because the time spent in the classroom or studying is not time spent earning a salary. Not having to worry about paying for tuition gives the students breathing room and makes the choice to go to college easier.”
New and current students who are residents of South Carolina must apply for federal student aid to receive tuition-free tuition.
New students, including those who have not enrolled in the past three semesters, must submit a college admissions application. Other requirements vary by state aid awarded.
School will open soon.
Trident Tech will begin four three-week terms for the fall on August 22, September 21, October 18 and November 16. There are also two seven-week terms with August 22 and early October dates. 18 as well as the full semester term beginning August 22. There are also different terms for spring.
Trident Tech offers two-year associate degrees, a one-year diploma program, and certificates for a variety of studies. Two of the largest two-year associate degree programs are in the arts and sciences, allowing students to transfer to four-year colleges to complete their degrees.
For students looking to gain the skills and training needed to enter the job market, the college offers everything from aircraft maintenance technology and culinary studies to online media production and cyber security.
“It really runs the gamut — from health-related fields to manufacturing to culinary to criminal justice,” Hansen said. “If someone has an interest, we can have a program that matches that interest.”
