Lyon, France is a must stop for those visiting Paris and then on to Cannes, Versailles and the Provence area as well. But it should be.
A two-hour train ride from Paris and close to the Alps and Swiss border, Lyon ranks as France’s third-largest city (after Paris and Marseille) and is more “calm” than Paris, said Catherine Torres, a 4-year resident of Lyon. In her interview with me b PhotowalksTV Series. “It’s very small … and you can do some amazing hiking.”

Yes, there’s a new part to a 2,000-year-old city, and it’s cosmopolitan, and it’s full of big buildings and big squares, and that’s cool.
And the old city, or Old Lyon, as it is said? This shows you what life in France was once like.
With small lanes, secret walkways and lonely streets, this area is exactly what Catherine Lyon is talking about when she calls it a walking paradise. You can see for yourself in the latest episode of PhotowalksTV, filmed on iPhone 14 Pro Max and Insta360 X3 cameras.
You don’t need a map or directions to play along. Just cross the river from the new part of town to Vieux Lyon, which is like stepping into a time machine full of wonderful French cafes, bistros, gelato parlors and lots of eye candy.
How to get there? Just cross the road from Old Town on one of the bridges. If you take the bridge by the tobacco shop, it will lead you directly to the historic one (everything is here). St. Jean’s CathedralWhich in turn leads to you Rue St. Jeanthe old street full of fun shops, those secret lanes, the doll museum and all those puppies.

My wife Ruth (please subscribe to her newsletter) describes the fare this way: “Meat-centric dishes such as salade Lyonnaise, foie gras and bread tripe.sapper apron). I didn’t try the trip, but I did try the soup dinner in a red wine sauce with creamy potatoes.
The highlights of Vieques León begin with the Cathedral of Saint Jean, begun in 1180 and completed in 1476. This large Gothic church is on the square.
As you walk down rue St. John, you will pass all kinds of shops and houses. Many of the houses lead to streets or “trabules”. They are said to have been built back when merchants were roaming around Lyon unseen. About 40 of the corridors are open to the public and are clearly marked with a small identification stamp.
In the corridor you will find houses, squares, gardens and a pleasant escape away from the huge crowds that can descend on the rue Saint-Jean.
There are two ways to explore the area. Midday with tourists, or early morning, when you have the main streets and side streets to yourself. I think you know which method to choose.
Another must stop in Vieques Leon is climbing to the top of the hill, and another amazing church dominates the skyline.
of Basilica of Notre Dame de Fourviere Construction began in 1872, so it’s relatively new, but it’s impressive, and it leads to a mountain that overlooks the city.
If you don’t feel like climbing steep stairs, you can hop on the metro and take it. Funicular to Fourviere Hill. Right there on Rue St. Grab it Jean and it’s a fun ride.
