Daughters of the Sun wrap themselves in bright wool spun by the Heliads, and as the threads of her cloak flutter in the wind, she creates a sunrise that unravels every morning. Peter Doe does the same thing in this look, but he’s a really tight surfer, so nothing gets loose. (except my heart)
There was a lot of denim-on-denim this fashion week, but rent collector Erin Beatty is doing it. Gabriela Hearst is obsessed with the past when she designs her line – this time, she’s name-checked works by the ancient Greek poet Sappho (b. 570 BC), sculptor Amy Knobel (1968) and pastor Shirley Caesar (1988). Using 35% post-mortem fabric (fabric that is produced and stored but never used) to reduce her carbon footprint, she weaves past and future into her clothes. Can there be novelty without novelty? It’s obvious – just look at her line.
Secret second show by Tory Burch
Tory Burch’s fashion shows are often brutal, and this one was no different. (We fell for the attached bodice tops and glitter-dusted eyeshadow; maybe we’re black and blue.) But it was actually a show at Tory Burch, and it was hours before Sydney Sweeney took over. Front row seat. It happened when the models got to know the runway and practiced it in matching Tory sports track pants and jackets. The whole thing only took a few minutes, but the photos are mind-boggling as fashion dream girls like Linisi Montero and Vittoria Ceretti are a powerhouse of long limbs, tousled hair and mandarin flowers. I wouldn’t have wanted one of these tracksuits before today, but I sure do now. Burch is as market-savvy as she is style-savvy. Sign me up for all Embrace Ambition meetings; Obviously too much. to learn!

“We encourage you to turn off your cellular device to enjoy the show while realizing you’re using it for work,” says Brandon Maxwell at Seats. There was plenty to enjoy—cool cut-out dresses, holographic reindeer tees, and a denim-and-sequin moment—so Mr. Maxwell can forgive us for sneaking in some Instagram time. (We also appreciate the soundtrack of chirping birds and forest sounds, which are proven to lower blood pressure. Given the traffic on Sixth Street today, we Really He needed it.)
Too much screen time on Maisie Wilen
There is a technology anxiety creeping into youth culture. You can see on industry, Constant pinging of a cell phone can only mean a disaster. You can see inside body parts, Where Instagram reveals its true killer. And you saw it—at least I saw it!—at Maisie Wilen, models ready to morph from girl to GIF with green screen-scrawled runes, and space photos, and pixels on their faces. It’s a smart call to create Willen, the daughter of Gen Z.

People watching (or is that people watching?) by Adam Lips
New York is a portable picture book that turns a million pages a minute. Fashion week organizer Adam Lips knows it, so he has his daughters parade through the city’s streets as a replica of Liberty Plaza. There were crisp poplin shirts and red sheer veils and tulle flutters, all set against a steel-and-stone backdrop on Hudson Harbor. In true Big Apple fashion, some viewers gaped… and some looked up, then went back to playing Wordle. A moment, for sure.
Parachute Party Dress Up by Bosiding
I’m not entirely sure what’s going on with this Bosideng puffer sleeping bag corset mini, but it’s nice to see some of the most persistent trends of this era – corsetry, athleisure and apocalypse rave – somehow fit into one sweet little outfit. It looks like Ariana Grande went to Burning Man.
Royal Puma Tenenbaum
Renowned stylist June Ambrose transformed the Puma runway into a cast of “Show Me This Biography” characters, a dance troupe, a group of grunge girls, and a bride and groom (played by Winnie Hallow and Usain Bolt). But it was this Richie and Margot Tenenbaum mashup that touched my heart. Plus, let’s be honest, the Puma Camel Blazer is pretty cool. (They will also be making sneaker loafers next season.)
