Valdosta, Ga. (WALB) – On Monday, many took to the streets to celebrate their hard work for Labor Day.

Labor Day marks the unofficial end of summer, so the temperature is dropping, but the traffic is heating up as people return home after the holidays.

“There are no major accidents during this trip,” said Sgt. c Swain with the Georgia State Patrol. “The traffic flow seems to be moving well. We didn’t have any big jams, big crashes, anything like that. It’s usually a good combination of both. We focus on (I-75) and state highways. On the interstate system, you meet people from all over the place. State lines connect people from the area around this area. So a combination of both is good.”

This Labor Day travel weekend was the busiest in the past three years, according to AAA.

“When it comes to driving, you see more, you enjoy the ride more, the scenery is beautiful so I’m not selling it for nothing,” said traveler Rose Monroe Wilson. “But now we’re here in Valdosta, we stopped here because the energy in Valdosta is fantastic. So we really love it here.

Many travelers say that they like to drive to their destination around this time of year and most of all, they enjoy the tour.

“Well, it’s cheaper, I mean, it’s more fun, and you can stop at places you’ve never seen before, like gas stations, maybe like a Buc-ee’s or something like that,” said Brandon Chalvez, who has been traveling through Valdosta, Illinois since then.

Swain said they traveled to Valdosta and overall it was a safe and fun Labor Day holiday.
