The World Food Organization (WFP) has named Bonaiir Island, the capital of the World Food Program for the second time in its history, to protect and promote culinary cultures around the world.

Cooking Capital is a program that knows the cooking culture of the destination. Launched in 2021, food tourism will help caterers find amazing destinations around the world to help boost post-epidemic industrial economy.

Bonaire is a tropical Caribbean island rich in history, culture and natural beauty, as the world’s first blue destination and one of the best Caribbean islands to dive and sail.

From China to Colombia to Africa and the Netherlands, there is a growing food scene with Michelle star chefs and locals who continue their rich culinary tradition.

“This certificate is a great encouragement to Bonaier and to the hard-working professionals who have mapped our small island in recent years,” said Miles BM Mesera, CEO of the Tourism Corporation. With a holistic view of how to develop and promote our gastrointestinal vision beyond the ever-present spectacular flooding.

Certified as a cooking capital, they must meet five different requirements on food culture, promotion, strategy, community and sustainability. Last year, the Caribbean island of Grenada was chosen as the world’s first cooking capital.
