The number of dead in the flood has increased, more bodies have been found

EASTERN KENTUCKY (WSAZ) – In a video update posted on Facebook Sunday morning, Governor Andy Beshear confirmed that the death toll has reached at least 26 after flooding in eastern Kentucky.

He said he knew more bodies had been found but could not confirm those deaths at this time.

“We’ve had hundreds of millions in damage, hundreds of people displaced, but we’re moving and moving fast,” Bescher said.

Beshear said the first trailers to help people home arrived in eastern Kentucky on Saturday.

Jenny Wiley State Park in Floyd County is full, but he said the trailers help increase capacity.

Crews are working to reopen Buckhorn State Park in Perry County.

“We want to wrap our arms around our brothers and sisters in Eastern Kentucky and make sure they’re safe,” Bescher said.

Beshear warned that more rain is coming, and will hit areas that are already flooded.

If you live in a flood-prone area, people are being warned to stay alert and safe and move to higher ground or take shelter.

The number one need at Shear right now is water, and you can go to the state’s Flood Resources website to see where to send those donations.

“To all of our people who have been affected, today, tomorrow, next week, next year, we are not going anywhere, we are going to help you rebuild,” Beshear said.

Beshear is visiting some of the flooded areas Sunday along with Congressman Hal Rogers.
