Poland’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) has warned Polish citizens against traveling to the Russian Federation due to the war in Ukraine and Moscow’s designation of Poland as an unfriendly country.

The ministry said in a statement on Tuesday that travel to Russia, including for business and urgent family matters, is not recommended.

The MFA also warned that visitors risked arbitrary arrest, with dual citizens having their mobile phones searched when they were about to leave Russia.

The number of Polish diplomatic and consular staff in Russia has been significantly reduced, making it very limited to provide direct consular assistance to Polish citizens, the MFA added.

Evacuation may be very difficult or impossible in the event of a serious deterioration in the security situation, border closures or other unforeseen circumstances (for implementation – PAP), the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said.

He urged people to monitor the ministry’s website and the websites of Polish missions to Russia. He added that people going to Russia should register their visit with the ministry.

Polish citizens staying in the Russian Federation are advised by the Ministry to leave their territory at any cost.
