Marcela Gómez, mother, nurse and cancer survivor of O’Commerce Candles, is the founder of a Latina-owned business and carries those memories in candles.
“Oh Comadre, candles celebrate life in Latin eyes. The candles are designed to evoke emotion, comfort, memory, or laughter, ”said Gómez.
Gomez started her career online in She explained that it was a way to get rid of stress during the work day and help her focus.
In October 2020, Gomez was diagnosed with breast cancer. She has since received medical treatment and is being pardoned.
She says she wants her story to be an example of caring for your health and seeing your doctor.
“Take care of yourself as we care for others,” Gomez said. “If your best friend tells you that you have a tumor, throw it away and your best friend will help you get medical help. Why not do the same for yourself?”
Gomez has gained more than 76,000 followers on Instagram since she started her business and opened her first store in Downey a few months ago.
“I have nothing but praise for someone who takes the time to walk through our door. It’s a wonderful feeling that any small business can relate to, ”said Gómez. “I couldn’t believe how much support the store had. I still can’t believe it. Someone said, “Please pinch me.”
Gomez says it has been a long process to find the right formula for her candles. She then received her first online order in 2016.
“I can’t believe anyone bought it from me. I thought it was a joke because the order came on my birthday. Fortunately, he was the first of many orders to come, ”said Gómez.
