Tracy Magee loves to travel, but that doesn’t mean she loves to pack.

And after years of traveling (to 30 countries so far), she couldn’t find the durable and stylish travel accessories she wanted.

The answer was simple for her: starting her own company.

As I started to look for accessories that I thought would fit my needs, I thought why not just do it. In the year said McGee, 51, who started that company, Ms. Jetster, in 2019.

“When I’m traveling, my necklaces get stuck all the time,” she says. Now she offers jewelry organizers and more than a dozen other items that sell for $10 to $70.

Other offerings include tech organizers, cosmetic items, laundry bags, passport cases and vaccination cards – reusable bottles for shampoos and lotions. They are sold on her website as well as at Amazon and Irv Luggage.

McGee is now hoping her business will be a hit at her first inspired home show, where she will have a booth displaying her products. The event will be held Saturday through Tuesday at McCormick Place.

With 1,600 exhibitors from 40 different countries, it is the largest annual trade show in the Midwest.

This year’s event will feature a new travel expo with travel accessories, luggage and accessories.

“I believe this will be a fantastic opportunity for my business,” McGhee said. “I’m focused on making sure my booth presence is strong and that I can convey what Ms. Jettetters is and is.”

McGhee believes the show will help her connect with more luggage companies, small businesses and big box stores.

“The goal is to go with new customers who can introduce existing customers to new smart products like the Ms.Jetsetter,” McGhee said. “I think consumers are looking for something new and promising, especially in the travel accessories space, and I believe Ms. Jetster will provide that.”

Getting to this point was not easy for McGee. She started her company before the pandemic hit, and when Covid-19 hit, she said, “I thought the business couldn’t go forward.” But luckily, I was in a retail accelerator program designed to help small businesses with physical products.

Thanks to that program, McGhee developed wristbands to Walgreens that he tested in 40 Chicago locations.

“I’m very lucky,” McGee said. “There are a lot of opportunities that are starting to open up for me and it feels great to be where I am.”
