Jacksonville, Fla. – This month’s Positive Jax winner turned tragedy and heartbreak into something beautiful.
Team A.Maise is the family whose 3-month-old daughter died on November 3, 2019, of a rare lung disease.
Ashlyn Mayse Leid has been hospitalized for about a month in the pediatric intensive care unit at Wolfson Children’s Hospital. During their stay, the family received much-needed care packages.
Eric and Heather Leid are broken up, but they have this support to help them stay together.
“When we were there, we saw so much kindness and generosity. When I was in that room, you felt like you were alone. But the community was reaching out, people in the hospital were giving us things and just donating to try to make our day special,” Leid said.
These care packages helped the sick daughter feel a sense of comfort and normalcy despite her stress. Ashlyn passed away a month after he was admitted to the hospital and now the family is paying for the support they received.

“You don’t think we have a snack bar and a coffee cart like we do, because sometimes, like our daughter, her health changes and we can’t leave her bedside. So just to step out of the room, get a cup of coffee, or if you’re hungry, a protein bar or a snack,” Leid said.
Team A.Maise donates monthly to UF Health and Wolfson Children’s Hospital to provide snacks, coffee, comfort carts and their latest idea — a wardrobe.
“We had the luxury of being able to tag team and go home and bring clothes, but we’ve met families in 95 car crashes and they have nothing. They had no clothes except what was on their backs.” said Leid.
So far in two short years they have made over 89,000 donations.
“We know we’re dealing with people. “We didn’t know how much of an impact it would have,” Leid said.
It’s not just positive jacks, but it’s also not surprising.
