Book a round-trip ticket to one of these world-class destinations
The cost of travel is difficult this time of year. There is no getting around it. The combination of high demand, high energy costs, and pandemic-era labor and supply chain shortages has driven up prices across all sectors of the industry.
But there is hope on the horizon, and things are slowly starting to look a little better. Fortunately, some of the world’s greatest destinations are seeing significant price drops. So if you’re planning to get out this fall, these might be some great options.
Seattle
Average ticket prices in the Pacific Northwest’s urban gem dropped 45 percent round-trip this fall. That doesn’t mean they’re going to go down considering the year we had then, but it does mean it looks like the best price we’ll get this year.
Highlights in Seattle include the Space Needle, Pike Place Market, Independence Square, and of course, the incredible hiking opportunities of the Pacific Northwest.
Angels
L.A. also saw the biggest drop, with average ticket prices down 35 percent. As one of the biggest destinations in the States, taking advantage of the shoulder season between summer and October vacation lets you enjoy this amazing city with fewer people.
The weather is always good there, so you don’t have to worry too much about missing the winter.
Portland
Portland, Oregon also saw its average ticket price drop by 35 percent this fall. This hip city is full of quirky personalities, independent businesses and some of the best restaurants in the country.
A visit here should be planned around one of over a hundred festivals, ranging from formal food and drink celebrations to more casual and cozy gatherings. We say surprising is better!
Barcelona
Across the Atlantic, the Catalan capital is enjoying a $30 discount for round trips, meaning paella is firmly on the menu this season. Visitors to one of Europe’s great cities will be delighted to see the enormous impact that artist Gaudí left on the metropolis with his magnificent buildings such as La Catedral de Sagrada Familia.
When you’re done with the traditional side of things, you can expect food, drink and some of the world’s best nightlife. Don’t miss a Barcelona FC soccer match.
San Francisco
One of the best cities in the world but one of the most expensive in the US. Travelers can help ease the financial burden of a San Fran trip by booking tickets for 25% off regular tickets. That leaves you with a nice chunk to spend on some of the best Asian cuisine in the United States.
Of course, you can’t miss a visit to Alcatraz or a visit to the Golden Gate Bridge. Relax on the cable car and explore its sloped splendor at a leisurely pace, and don’t forget to try some pickles.
London
The Old Smoke currently has 25% fewer round trips than usual, semi-great news for adventurers in the UK. London is also a strong connecting city, so if your final destination is further afield it may be worth checking the prices in and out of the city.
Naturally, if you’re staying in the British capital, you’ll be treated to a number of world-class attractions such as the Tower of London, the London Eye, Buckingham Palace and Big Ben.
San Diego
Another top California destination is San Diego, where round-trip prices have dropped 20 percent compared to a year ago, making round-trip travel more affordable.
Ever popular, the city’s perfect weather, laid-back attitude and wealth of attractions make it a great choice when the days get a little chilly. Grab a surfboard and you’ll be enjoying summer again in no time.
Chicago
If heat isn’t your thing, head north to the Windy City. As fall sets in, you can enjoy a cooler climate combined with some of America’s best urban sprawl. When Chicago tickets are 20% off, just like San Diego, there’s no better time to hop on a flight to Chi-Town.
The city is full of amazing attractions, amazing restaurants and some of the best bars in the world and 20% is spending a little money to splash on those instead.
Rome
Looking for a big token of love? No more than Rome (except Paris, maybe). Flights to the Italian capital are slashed by around 15%, enough to prompt a trip you’re running on a shopping spree.
Endless historical sites, the best pastas in the world and big tickets like the Vatican and the Colosseum await if the price drop is enough to get you on the plane.
Paris
If Rome doesn’t quit, Paris is the only option. Fortunately, the most romantic city on the planet has reduced its flight costs by 15%, which is great news for such an expensive city. Hotel rates and other activities are rarely on the cheap side, so knocking a good chunk off the big spend goes a long way.
The Eiffel Tower, Champs Elysee, Louvre, Notre Dame, Montmartre, Sacre Coeur and Moulin Rouge are some of the most visited cities in the world.
Cancun
A classic beach trip sometimes can’t be beat, and where better than Cancun? There are great deals to be had in world-class hotels, and flights are one of the more affordable with the number of flights heading there already. But there’s a 10% discount in those costs, so a quick trip to the Mexican Caribbean is on the cards.
Whether you’re looking for Tulum, Playa del Carmen, or Cancun itself, Cancun Airport is the place to go. You can also look forward to the new automatic 180-day stay on arrival, even if you book a one-way flight for a longer stay.
