InsureMyTrip, the US travel insurance comparison agency, has done the hard work. Experts analyzed 1,000 hotels in top destinations in the United States and abroad, gathering data from the most popular online booking sites.
The agency selected 50 hotels in 20 popular cities for U.S. travelers — ten in the U.S. and ten international — and searched for prices for the same dates on the same day to avoid price fluctuations. The results may surprise a few travelers.

The cheapest hotel booking platforms
InsureMyTrip explains that. Booking.com shows the most expensive options. Only 7% offered better deals during the analysis. The platforms with the cheapest bookings were:
- Hotels.com: This booking site usually has the best hotel deals. According to the report, this platform offers 69% excellent rates. Using this platform helps travelers save around $43.83.
- Expedia: This platform has the same pricing as Hotels.com and shows the second best price with a difference of a few cents or two dollars.
- Direct hotel Booking directly from the hotel might not be a bad option, but it can be a little more expensive in most cases.
On average, booking your hotel You can pay up to $33.13 more through Booking.com. More than you can through Hotel.com.
The report shows which location is the best value based on the city. These are the main destinations considered by InsureMyTrip:
- new york: Travelers can save up to $73.82 in this city by booking through Hotels.com.
- The angels: The best option is to register directly through the hotel website. This strategy will save you around $39.68.
- Miami: Using a reputable platform can be a good strategy to avoid popular rental scams in Florida, but visitors should opt to Hotels.com for the best deals.

- Paris: Hotels.com and Expedia are the best hotel booking platforms when visiting this charming city.
According to the study, the destination can also affect the price on each platform. Expedia usually has the best prices when traveling to the United Arab Emirates, Bangkok, Thailand or Malaysia. Some websites are more popular and trusted in certain destinations, so travelers should keep this in mind when looking for the best options.
How to save money when booking a hotel
The research made it clear that Booking.com might not be your best partner and if you don’t have much time to compare hotel prices from different websites, Hotels.com is definitely the best option. However, those who want to save money should always compare at least two or three options.
