Looking to recapture some of the glory of its V-16 flagships from a century ago, Cadillac is previewing the post-apocalyptic Celestiq. A stretched ultra-luxury sedan for the modern day, the Celestiq combines state-of-the-art dimensions with an all-electric powertrain, multi-zone smart glass roof and all-seat digital infotainment system. We’ve covered this manuscript before with the 2004 Sixteen and 2016 Escala concepts, but this time Cadillac is sending it to print, building the Celestial into a product closely tied to its show car.

Cadillac didn’t roll out the tape measure to let us know exactly how much the Celestique is, leaving our minds to guess how much the wagon-like body will run. Cadillac may call it a sedan, but the roofline looks more substantial than a regular fastback, with its roofline covering luggage, groceries, and any other cargo in an asset-like trunk. Outside of that trunk, the rear end uses the Lyric’s rear molding design as a springboard to the upper and lower hockey sticks for a spectacular light show. The front-end also derives from the Lyric, leaning a bit closer to the crossover’s facial expression, albeit with larger, bolder proportions befitting a retro-inspired flagship.

The stretched size, two-row sedan seating and Ultium electric powertrain promise the Celestial’s airy, limousine-like comfort inside the doors. The smart glass roof at the top, meanwhile, offers a unique lens to the sky, using suspended particle device (SPD) technology that can be adjusted to four independent zones with color.

Each of the four passengers will enjoy his or her own high-definition digital display, with two additional displays occupying the two front and rear seats, possibly serving as touch controls. The giant door-to-door 55-inch dashboard display breaks into the driver and passenger compartments, relying on a new active privacy feature that lets the front passenger enjoy video content out of the driver’s view and prevent any dangerous distractions.

Although the Celestial is in car mode, Cadillac promises its technologies, including Ultra Cruise, are more than just a concept. They would go on to make the Celtic Cadillac the most advanced vehicle of all time. The car will also be the first production vehicle to be built at GM’s Global Technical Center. GM is investing $81 million to modernize the Celtics production center.

Cadillac plans to reveal more details about the Celtic later this year. As reported Wall Street Journal Last month, the car debuted in the $300,000 range, leapfrogging traditional luxury territory and becoming an electric alternative to ultra-premium offerings from Rolls-Royce, Bentley and Mercedes-Maybach.
