TechCrunch Live is entering its third season, and I’m thrilled to be hosting the events again this year. The first event is on February 1, 2023, and will provide a timely discussion of what to do if your company can’t raise a Series A. Kambli’s Sameer Sharif and Benchmark’s Sarah Tavel will be speaking at the first event.
Of course, TechCrunch Live is free to attend. This weekly event/episode goes live every Wednesday at 12:00/3:00 PST/EST. Register with Hoppin to ask questions and connect with guests and other participants. The event will be streamed to Facebook Live and YouTube and will continue Twitter Gaps.
TCL’s mission is still to help founders build better venture-backed businesses. But as we move into 2023, there is a new urgency behind this mission. TechCrunch Live started in the prime days of 2021, and now at the beginning of 2023, the startup world is experiencing radical changes. Fundraising is very difficult, sales cycles are very long, and investors (and LPs) have expectations that affect all industries.
A few updates for 2023
- TechCrunch Live is back on the hoppin’. Each event will have a hoppin’ segment where you, the audience, can ask questions of the guests. You must sign up and register for each event. But the hassle is worth it. believe me.
- I’ll be turning to Twitter to help come up with some questions for each week’s guest. It’s really important to me that you ask your favorite questions, so if you can’t log in to Hoppin’, send me questions on Twitter @mjburnsy.

Kamli seems like a sure bet now, but as you’ll hear from Sameer, it was a struggle to get to this point. After the Series A failed to scale, the company had to change the model overnight. Camli had to find a way to make a profit to keep the doors open when the VC said no more after the VC. Since then, the company has gone on to raise a $20 million Series A and a $60 million Series B, but only because the company has taken drastic measures in pursuit of higher-than-expected profitability.

Christina Ross and her company Cube are on a mission to improve financial planning and analysis. Unlike its competitors, Cube isn’t trying to replace internal spreadsheets, but instead coexists with these popular spreadsheets. Cube’s strategy is meeting its customers where they are. Hear how this novel approach was developed and how it attracted investment from leading firms, including Rajeev Batra at Mayfield Fund.

Christina Cacioppo (Vanta) and Andrew Reed (Sequoia) – 2/15/2023
Christina Cacioppo co-founded Vanta to help companies stay current with ever-changing regulations. And the industry responded with enthusiasm. The company quickly raised over $200 million in venture capital, becoming a $150 million Series B unicorn in October 2022.
