County staff of the Academy of Excellence are required to complete 8 core courses and 6 election credits – Mako has announced 6 courses for the 2022 Summer Conference.
The 2022 Mako Summer Conference will be held from August 17-22 at the Roland Paul Convention Center in Ocean City MD. This year’s theme is “Business care. ”
The Local Government Academy of Excellence is a voluntary certification program for elected and appointed county and municipal officials. The program provides a strong background for local government leaders with the necessary skills and knowledge. It was founded by Mako and MML, is sponsored by the University of Maryland School of Public Policy, and is sponsored by the local government insurance company (LGIT).
Academic courses are open to all conference enrollees (Register online) – Academic staff must complete review forms for each class to receive credit.

Destination Maryland – Tomorrow’s Tourism
press release – Tourism is a big business for the counties of Maryland, employing hundreds of thousands of people, adding billions to the economy and generating millions of local tax revenues. Like other county service areas, the Maryland tourism industry has faced unprecedented challenges in the past two years. Throughout the epidemic, the provinces developed new strategies to attract tourists or to introduce new forms of tourism in general. As a vital service to their community, the tourism departments began to focus on innovative or expanded external and online resources and, among other things, human resource development and community improvement projects. During this session, county representatives will discuss their new and revised vision for promoting tourism and how to implement it at the regional level to boost Maryland’s economy.
