Washington, July 21, 2022 /PRNewswire/ — Tech Business, a podcast and YouTube show created and hosted by a leading technology services expert and analyst. Dave SobelIt recently gathered insights from more than 300 IT services companies to better understand the direction of diversity efforts in the technology industry. The Q2 2022 survey measures the leadership styles of groups that provide IT services, and compared to data from previously tracked segments, it’s clear that diversity efforts are moving at a slower, and in some indicators, even slower pace.

The survey tracked 3,533 people from more than 300 companies, and was conducted at the end of the 2022 quarter. Key findings include:

  • There are more white IT leaders than in 2021. In the most recent survey, 89.20% of those tracked were white, up from 87.73% last quarter and 86.18% the quarter before — a 3 percent increase over the nine-month period. Non-white counterparts.
  • The rise of women in IT leadership is nominal. This quarter, 79.51% of IT leadership was male, compared to 79.75% in Q1 and 80.32% the quarter before. Although this has been steadily decreasing, the overall growth rate for women has been only 20.46 percent from 19.29 percent in six quarters.
  • The overall percentage of black IT leadership is still low, and the increase is fractional. Over the past six quarters, the overall percentage of black IT leaders has hovered between 1.39% and 2.02%. Compared to the previous quarter, this survey’s data showed an increase in black leadership of just .03 percent.

The Business of Tech Podcast launched its quarterly survey in 2020 to generate reliable metrics to help IT leaders effectively improve diversity and inclusion in their organizations. A podcast focused on diving into the deeper meaning behind technology news, the Tech Business team is uniquely positioned to pave the way for a more equitable future in technology.

“For a field that likes change, we have not yet cracked the rules to improve diversity in the technology industry – there are many conversations, it is impossible to manage what is not measurable,” he said. David Sobel, host, creator and producer of the Tech Podcast Business. “To effectively embrace new and diverse talent in our ever-changing field, we must first know who is leading us, what they look like, and where to focus our efforts to improve inclusion.”
