“Eat right, exercise, die anyway,” said one Twitter user. “This is narcissism gone wild.”

Despite the abuse, Johnson appeared undaunted.

“Today’s responses have been amazing,” he tweeted on Wednesday. “I know you’re hard at work creating haters, sycophants, abusers and insults.”

Johnson told Bloomberg News that while building Braintree, he became obese, depressed and nearly suicidal — from the stress and long hours he had to work.
