Part 2 of our cheap adventure in Taipei.
Our Japanese language reporter Go Hatori has a big love for travel, but not a big budget for it. With only 50,000 yen (US$370) to spend, Go is desperate to find round-trip airfare from Japan to Taipei, a hotel for one night, and still have money left over to enjoy spectacular views and amazing food. Day 1 was great, with the rumored inspiration for a spirit service and a visit to the best fried rice in Taipei, but does Go’s opportunity/budget run out on Day 2? Read on to find out!

The Go room at Morwing Hotel Ocean comes with free breakfast. To be more clear, it came A NNT$60 (US$2) voucher to a nearby restaurant, so go there to start his day. Interestingly, the place looks like a hamburger restaurant.

His shop of choice; Supermarket! There were many types of soaps that Go had never seen before. They had some sold in Singapore and Malaysia, but Go wanted it for Taiwan only, and picked up 18 bars for NNT$447.
As he skips down the sidewalk thinking how excited all his coworkers and friends are, He found another supermarket. “Check this man’s soap too…” he decided.
It was more soap than he had ever seen before! And they came in nice boxes! He had to buy some so he bought two different types that come in boxes of six for a total of NT$204.
In total, he bought 30 soaps. He was very pleased with it, but most of all he was very pleased with the packaging of the soap, which, judging by the characters used on the packaging, has a “brown sugar” smell. Can’t wait to try it and see what it smells like.
Packed in thirty soaps, Go’s bag now felt heavier than before. It was also much colder in Taiwan than Go had expected.
He thought he was going to find a warming pot or something, but outside the supermarket what caught his eye was…
