Spire increases focus on New Zealand, Australia business with 2 new hires

Spire Global The company announced the week of July 21 that it will increase its focus on Australia and New Zealand with two new executive hires and plans to open an office in Melbourne. Spire has hired Dr Elizabeth Wylin as Head of Business Development and Syed Miri as Director of Space Services for Australia and New Zealand.

Wiley will be responsible for growing the company’s sales operations and footprint in Australia and New Zealand. She develops a network of collaboration between the private and public sectors by identifying and developing new business opportunities. Wylie previously worked for the Australian Government in data science and innovation leadership roles.

Miri leads business development, client relationship management and overall expansion of Spire Space Services, the company’s space as a service business, in Australia and New Zealand. He has held senior positions at Airbus Defense and Space-Intelligence and Jacobs (SKM).

Spire will bring Wylie and Miri on board as it plans to open an office in Melbourne at the end of the third quarter. This expands its geographic footprint to nine offices in seven countries.

Kamal Arafat, Senior Vice President of Global Sales, said: “Australia and New Zealand are forward-looking countries with significant government and commercial investment in the space industry. As we work to expand our footprint in this key region, Elizabeth’s work experience and experience of over 15 years working for Australian government and research institutions will be invaluable. Spire has several customers in Australia. The company has signed Australian company Marriott as its first large-scale commercial IoT customer for its location-as-a-service offering. September 2021and built a satellite with Dragonfly Aerospace for the Australian Office of National Intelligence (ONI) National Information Community Satellite (NICSAT) program Plan for a second satellite.
