Smart Robotics, a provider of automation for services such as warehouses and logistics processes, has launched its latest collaborative robot system – the Smart Fashion Picker.
“The cobot’s reliability and ability to run continuously ensures a quick return on investment – addressing the labor crisis in logistics and improving the physical and mental health of warehouse workers,” the company said.
Smart Fashion Picker addresses the pain point of change in warehouse automation. The demand arises from the fact that the warehouse sector has been very late to automation, compared to other industries, and is now seeing a rapid transition to modern processes.
Transformation is much needed as piece picking efficiency in warehouses plays a key role in creating a frictionless logistics approach.
The name of the smart fashion picker is derived from its function – the cobot can pick a wide variety of fashion items, which are in protective packaging, directly from the cart or from the bin.
Vision sensors, movement and action planning algorithms help the cobot calculate what to pick next, and how to correctly pick and place the item into the next bin, plus it can easily detect when the bin is empty or full.
“After successful implementation with our first customers, we are very excited to introduce this product to the wider market,” said Johan Jardenvall, CEO of Smart Robotics.
It has proven to provide stable and reliable performance with the resources needed in a warehouse to handle the large product ranges common to the industry.
“This product is an important step in our master plan to reduce repetitive and harmful operations in warehouses around the world.”
Picking items in a warehouse is a repetitive process that puts heavy wear and tear on the people who manually pick and place items. As such, it allows warehouse workers to follow robotic systems instead of exhausting themselves picking and sorting items.
Smart Robotics says its cobot is capable of handling items at speeds that match human pickers, requiring very little supervision. The system ensures reliable and uninterrupted operation and requires no special training from the operators and “can be operated safely by people of all skill levels”.
In addition, the Smart Fashion Picker is smarter in its ability to adapt to the changing circumstances around it, such as different types of changes, how the cobot interacts with people moving around it, and so on. As such, a smart fashion picker can operate in real-world warehouses rather than a pre-defined, coded, environment.
Smart Robotics has been developing picking applications based on cobots since 2017, and the Smart Fashion Picker is sure to help ensure more reliable capacity in the most demanding logistics. This launch is a major achievement in Smart Robotics’ continued improvement of their cobot designs.
Smart Robotics says Smart Fashion Picker is “one of many improvements in the pipeline to make warehouse automation more versatile and flexible in the high-performance logistics industry.”
