This Elizabethtown small business recently celebrated its one year anniversary. For the past year, the store has offered nursing uniforms, accessories, hair and beauty products, clothing and more for owner Melissa McCoy’s daughter, Sheena — the store’s namesake.
Melissa McCoy shared, “Owning a sand shop was her dream. She loved clothes and all aspects of fashion. So I decided to open Sheena’s Place Uniforms and Boutique to keep her dreams and memories alive.
The goal was originally to provide uniforms, but when she opened the store, she realized that her customers needed other items, so she added these items to her menu to better serve her customers. McCoy added, “The response has been overwhelmingly supportive.
The first year of business brought both success and challenges. McCoy explained, “It was very challenging to do business. I’m at the point where I want to shut down, but I have some wonderful clients, praying people, and a great support group by my side. I thank God for not giving up and close the doors of Sheena’s uniform and boutique. She continued, “Some days, I might make $500.00, and then there are days when I only make $20.00, but something is better than nothing, and I keep going.
Supporting small businesses is important because these local businesses contribute positively to our community. When asked how Sheena’s Place contributes to the community, owner Melissa McCoy said, “I contribute to the community by donating to local fundraisers and charity events. I do this by donating items for raffles and monetary donations. I also do acts of kindness for random people. I try to inspire other minority women to become entrepreneurs.
A message from the owner:
“On behalf of Sheena’s Place Uniforms and Boutique, we thank the City of Elizabethtown for your support and allowing us to be a part of the business community here in Elizabethtown. We would like to thank our customers for their support and for coming to shop with us. I would also like to thank my staff for a great year. I couldn’t have done it without all of you.”
Sheena’s position is not hiring at this time. However, as the business grows, more positions become available.
