Serena Williams is hitting the court at the US Open, possibly for the last time. After announcing her retirement in Vogue’s September 2022 issue, the tennis legend is preparing to make her final appearance at the Queens, NY-based tournament. And she does it with great style. Williams’ US Open 2022 outfit was more than just an on-court look, though. It makes perfect sense, and is a fitting tribute to the unique legacy she left behind.
To play her first match at the 2022 US Open, Serena Williams wore a black and sheer Nike dress covered in sparkles, People reports. The glittery look features a six-layer dress to celebrate her previous six US Open titles – and it’s the perfect ensemble as she strives for her 24th Grand Slam title.
Her sneakers are also adorable. The designer chose the NikeCourt Flare 2 shoes, boasting 400 honeycomb diamonds, her initials inscribed on the medial side and an embellished swoosh. The crystal-encrusted outfit, which Williams co-designed, evoked the outfits typically worn by figure skaters. “Inspired by iconic competition dresses, the embellished bodice and skirt puts Serena in the spotlight and allows her freedom of movement,” Nike said in a statement.
Olympia Ohanian, who is known for expressing her own style, showed off her mother’s special importance in a matching Nike dress and beaded hairstyle.
