We spoke to Fabrizio Della Pace, EIT Digital’s Challenges Lead, to learn more about the challenge.
How is this year’s exam different from previous editions? Is there anything new or interesting for the participants?
There are two big changes to this year’s version of the exam. First of all, we have increased the number of winners from five last year to ten this year. This gives us more flexibility to reward quality metrics in what we expect to be highly qualified competitors in a crowded field.
The second significant difference is that the final event competition will be held in conjunction with the EIT Grow Digital annual conference. This means that when finalists come to Brussels, they will be part of a bigger event, with more exposure, more publicity and opportunities to make valuable connections.
How does the EIT pan-European network help strike the winning balance? Also, what are the highlights of the 50,000 Euro worth of international development support?
First of all, the winning scales will be invited to join the EIT Digital Accelerator without paying the 50,000 euro entry fee. This gives them access to a full year of fundraising and marketing support. In particular, our fundraising specialists work closely with scale-up founders to call investors.
VCs are going to ask a lot of tough questions, so we’re there to confirm what to expect. Once the benchmarks are set, our team will reach out to a network of 1000+ investors across Europe. Facilitate introductions and arrange investor calls, helping our scale find the right strategic investors.
What can the finalists of the competition expect from the pitch competition scheduled for June?
The final event of the exam is always a very exciting day. Scale Up finalists will be invited to Brussels with travel expenses covered by EIT Digital. In addition to the usual intense pitch competition, there are plenty of opportunities to network with established VCs and corporates.
Likewise, there will be a VIP dinner afterward, open only to finalists and investors. This is another opportunity to pitch your business and ask for investor feedback, but in a more expansive way.
Finally, since the event is happening simultaneously with the Grow Digital conference. We will announce the winners in the main forum at the end of the day. So that’s a great opportunity for some well-deserved publicity.
