From sound engineers and screenwriters to celebrity makeup artists and stylists, Variety’s “Ask the Insider” series asks top professionals in the entertainment industry to share their must-haves for work…and play. In this episode, “Modern Family” star and future “Love Island USA” host Sarah Hyland shares her travel experiences this summer.
Sarah Hyland is on the move. The “Modern Family” star was recently in Berlin for a screening of the upcoming “Pitch Perfect” spin-off film “Bumper in Berlin” this Thanksgiving at the Peacock. This week, Hyland announced she’s headed to the “Villa” this year to make her reality TV debut on “Love Island USA,” a hosting gig that takes into account her high-profile engagement to former “Bachelorette” contestant Wells Adam.
Between her hectic travel schedule and wedding planning (Hyland and Adams plan to marry this year after several pandemic-related postponements), Hyland took time to share her top travel essentials. Difference.
“If you ask my fiance, I’ll mention it at the last minute,” says Hyland. Difference. “My packing style is all about options – sure, I pack a lot but you never know what mood you’re going to be in or if the weather is going to change drastically. I love having so many different outfits planned. One of her favorites? This oversized Free People sweater.
Hyland said that no matter how often she travels for work, she still gets pre-flight jitters. “I’m a wreck the whole time before I get in the car to go to the airport – once I’m there, that’s it!” she says. “You can always buy underwear if you don’t pack it. As long as I have my passport, wallet, medicine and phone? i’m fine.”
That being said, she has a few must-haves that will make a trip worthwhile. That’s what he said. More comfortable and convenient. Check out Highland’s top travel essentials below:
Goneo SB charging station
“I need all chargers: portable, USB, USB-C. Whatever technology I rely on, it has to have a backup power bank. Having your phone or AirPods die mid-flight is the worst thing in the world. I especially like this one from Amazon.”

Dimly comfortable. Socks. Airplane floors creep me out and I love wearing the designated pair of socks for the plane. These barefoot dream socks are my favorite pair.

Source Glow Bites
“I always bring Sourse Chocolate Vitamins with me, specifically, Glow Bites. Travel can be very dehydrating, and it can have a huge impact on your skin—having these on a flight not only keeps my skin hydrated, but also serves as a delicious treat! They’re plant-based, gluten-free, and perfect.” They are delicious.
