Roblox’s losses are in the millions. Investing in Metaverse Tech?

[ad_1]

Roblox experienced a loss of 22.11% over the past 6 months. This is despite the highest number of users ever. The company’s profits have slipped due to the massive investment — leading fans to question whether a true scaling experience is on the way.

In June, Roblox’s loss for the past 3 months was $176 million. This figure is up 25.91% from last year’s quarterly loss of $140m.

“The increase in losses was due to increased costs to support business growth,” Roblox said.

The losses of Roblox

The company met the shareholders by promising to invest heavily in the company’s future. In the year By 2022, Roblox’s spending on assets and equipment has reached a whopping $135 million. Last year, the bill was just $45 million.

Roblox Chief Business Officer Craig Donato said the company is investing in staff, increased server capacity and global data centers.

We’re very much in an investment mode, and that’s going to cause a bit of a drag on revenue, but these investments are the right investments that we need to make. They pay off over three to five years.

Another reason for the profit drag is that the company changed its user lifetime from 23 months to 25 months in the second quarter. This is a reduction of $40m in recognized revenue.

Roblox Metaverse

Roblox, along with Minecraft, has been theoretically suggested as one of the first successful metaverses. But it’s still early days, Donato says, and the interaction between the metaverse and full immersion isn’t here yet.

“There’s so much going on, considering where we are in the journey of the metaverse, we’re probably somewhere in the first innings. Now we are building a stack. We’re all building a stack.”

Roblox works with business partners like Gucci to create experiences for Roblox fans in their own branded worlds. They’re even integrated with Spotify for the world of music. Everything looks Metaverseish.

Roblox added reservations.

Roblox calls sales of its virtual currency – Robux – ‘bookings’. Players use Robux to purchase digital items such as avatars and premium features.

The company’s revenue from bookings increased significantly in the last quarter. It rose 34.15 percent to $1.12 billion in June from $841 million in the middle of last year. This is 1.31 billion dollars less compared to the same period last year.

Roblox sees losses swell to $340m by mid-2022

Daily active users

While revenue is declining, Roblox’s total daily active user (DAU) is going gangbusters. In July, Roblox’s DAU hit an all-time high (ATH) of 58.5 million users. This was thanks to the children who were detained during the pandemic around the world.

Roblox CEO (CEO) David Bazuki, the company continues to grow users and engagement worldwide. The aim is to expand the penetration of Roblox in all age groups and countries.

“On Vision, our layered clothing system is the first step towards highly personalized avatars on the platform. Our voice system is on the way and marks the future of how people interact on platforms like Roblox. And our body-based material system will make Roblox even more realistic.” Taking look and feel as the next step is widely appreciated by our developers. Finally, I want to highlight that we will continue to work on innovative, immersive monetization systems, and we expect to roll out a test of our fun ad system later this year.
