Only a small percentage of customers chose the entry-level navigation configuration. The vehicles originally came with two packages — Adventure and Explore — and “most” chose the Adventure.
Customers who choose the Explore package save at least $5,500. The Adventure Package, which starts at $73,000, features a premium interior and Gear Guard remote control system and safety cables.
“By focusing on the Adventure trim package, we are able to streamline our supply chain and deliver vehicles faster,” Rivian said.
Customers who ordered the Explore option can still upgrade to the Adventure Package, cancel their pre-order or “do nothing,” Rivian said.
The package can be reconfigured online, and Rivian says it will estimate a new delivery window, noting that it won’t automatically result in an earlier date.
If customers don’t act by Sept. 1, Rivian said it will remove pre-orders of the Explorer package from the product queue until they update the configuration.
Customers who choose to cancel will receive a full refund by September 16.
