Residents travel to Belize, the police welcome them

HUDSON – The Jackson family spent their school holidays on an unforgettable trip to Belize.

On vacation at Sleeping Giant Resort and Ambergris Caye from Feb. 19 to 26, Hudson residents Brett and Liz Jackson and sons Will, 18; and twins Ben and Sam, 15; and Brett’s cousin, Rob Jackson of Marlborough; his wife, Jill Jackson; Colin, 19; and Clare, 16

At the Belmopan resort they visited the Mayan ruins of Zuntunich, enjoyed jungle tubing, hiking and swimming in ancient cenotes (pools in limestone wash-holes). Swim in crystal waters at Ambergris Caye and snorkel at Hoi Chan Marine Reserve.

Liz Jackson said it was a “very active” holiday season, and confirmed they could fit in “with the kids”.

The family has previously taken vacations to Costa Rica and Quebec.

‘Out of the Bad’

Hudson Police Chief Rick DiPersio welcomed two new officers to the force, both experienced and well-trained.

Officer Heather Manning (Officer #141) has a BA in Legal Studies and 15 years of police experience. She has served as an investigator and certified field training officer. Officer Nicholas Girard (Officer #142) holds BS and MS degrees in Criminal Justice. A seasoned law enforcement professional, he has received extensive training and certification and has experience in community engagement.

Garden design program

“Garden Design,” an engaging program by Joan Pearson, professional photographer and landscape architect, will be presented at the Hudson Garden Club meeting on Monday, March 20, 2010 at the Hudson Senior Center, 29 Church Street.

Pearson offers ideas for planning and improving gardens to suit all lifestyles, schedules and budgets. Doors open at 6:40 p.m., masks are optional, parking is free and complimentary food will be served. A $5 donation is requested from non-members. The Hudson Board of Selectmen accepted a $10,000 donation from the Robert Lloyd Corkin Charitable Foundation to the Hudson Department of Veterans Services for the VetsRide program.

Walking for hunger

Walk for Hunger returns to Boston for 55Th year, Sunday, May 7, after an absence of three years on account of the plague. During the holidays, Hudson Walker Mary Walling and friends continue their annual neighborhood walk collecting donations. According to Walling, who has participated in each walk, the recipients of the funds include children, college students, the elderly and the unemployed. The soft side of Celtic

Multi-instrumentalist Jeff Snow will present his musical program “A Softer Celtic Side” Thursday evening, March 23rd at 6:30 at the Hudson Public Library. The talented entertainer shares his music and the stories behind music from Scotland, Ireland and England. Register at huds.pl/celtic2023.

Reviewer has been rescheduled

Assessor Gary Sohmer’s February 28th appearance at the Hudson Historical Society meeting was postponed to April 25th due to snow. At the March 28 meeting, 7 pm in the First Federated Church auditorium, longtime sportswriter Howie Newman will present a “musical sports show.”

History of guns

Hudson resident Andy Massa will present “The History of the Battle Rifle, 1775-1975” on Thursday, March 16 at 9:30 a.m. at the Hudson Senior Center on Church Street. It features rifles ranging from Revolutionary War flintlocks to Vietnam M14s and M16s. Call the center at 978-562-9638 to register.

Looking back to 1973

At Hudson High School, the “Mathletes,” coached by faculty member Brian Sullivan, include Arthur Franke, Mark Johnson, and Kathy Kozur. Edward Lattinville earned the dean’s list at Worcester State College, where he was a senior.

Sandra Joyce, president of the Hudson Garden Club, announced that the club will sponsor its first flower show. Mrs. Richard Curtis was chairman of the local “March of Dimes” fund drive. Hudson Catholic High student Kathleen Walkovich has been dubbed “Betty Crocker the Homemaker.” Mrs. Mary Douglas, Proprietor, Hudson’s Bridal House, 14 Lincoln St.

Manuel Miranda retired from the Marlboro Shoe Company Mrs. Grace Woodard Boothe, noted organist, pianist and teacher, presented an organ recital at the Hudson Public Library.
