Prada plays with contrast at the Milan Fashion Week show

MILAN, Sept 22 (Reuters) – Simplicity and contrasts were the main themes at the Prada catwalk show in Milan on Thursday, with the Italian luxury label shedding “unnecessary complexity” in its latest womenswear collection.

Designers Miuccia Prada and Raf Simons opened their spring/summer 2023 show with sharp gray looks from collared shirts, slim pants and jumpsuits.

Reinforcing the idea of ​​simplicity were sleeveless dresses made from paper base fabric. The mattresses are split in the front, vibrate and bend.

“The clothes are simple, without unnecessary complexity,” Miuccia Prada said in a statement.

“No complicated structure, nothing unnecessary. Nothing absurd – the raw, the raw represents absolute simplicity. We wanted to do something with the simplest, modest material – paper. Then we used this system of reduction and simplicity as a method. Making beauty.”

Outerwear consisted of light opera coats and black leather jackets. Some coats had large bows in the back.

Last season’s chic look continued at Thursday’s show, with models wearing sheer tops and skirts.

For the show, the designers, who worked with film director Nicolas Winding Refn, stuck to a color palette of gray, white, black with splashes of bright lime, orange and red that were occasionally seen on tops, handbags or shoes.

Milan Fashion Week runs until September 26 with heavyweights such as Gucci, Versace, Dolce & Gabbana and Giorgio Armani among those presenting their latest creations.
